Whether you are a student, an educator, a first-time jobseeker, a parent or a person considering a career change, you will find that the Pennsylvania Career Guide is a valuable resource as you make those all-important career decisions.  Information in this publication can be used by all individuals who are preparing for continuing education and/or entrance into the workforce.  Examples of the useful information that are found in this guide include career outlook highlights, an interest assessment tool, tips for marketing yourself, sources of financial aid, and contact information for many Commonwealth services, including PA CareerLink locations and select state agencies.

Service and Training Programs

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.

Job Corps

Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training.

ASVAB

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a multiple choice test administered by the U.S. Military.  It is used to determine qualification for enlistment in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Learn About the Military Services Branches

The U.S. Military consists of five active-duty service branches and their respective Guard and Reserve units. Together, they offer a broad variety of ways to serve (Today’s Military).

One way to gain skills and experience is through unpaid work.  Students can improve their job prospects when they gain practical work experience and job skills that employers are looking for.
